Fr. 20. April: LIVE Leon (CH)

20. April 2012

artwork by abstien gachetLeon is a bass duo consisting of Raphaël Ortis and Louis Schild initiated by the Insubordinations Netlabel and premiered for the label’s Microfestival in January 2011. This meeting allowed to work and to lay down several principles of improvisation as well as a better understanding of the dynamics created by a two-bass playing. Fairly quickly, the project has expanded and now becomes a trio with variable geometry by inviting a drummer or a percussionist as different as possible on each concert, in order to constantly renew the sound language.

Mechanical tearings or organic squeaks, the instrument is a tool to instinctively express the sound whose form has to be constantly re-carved. In this way, the fundamental aesthetic choices are related to the basic instrumentation, namely two basses, and are inspired by the meetings to expand the artistic discourse while keeping free and spontaneous improvisation as a guideline.

with special guest Antoine Läng

Antoine Läng’s (vocals+electronics) taste for hybridization and experimentation leads him to use electronic devices as a means of voice processing to extend its field. Initiated in rock, metal or jazz bands, this process is ongoing and increasingly directed toward experimental and improvised music, in regular projects (dQtç, VLL678, Atomic Paracelze) as well as occasional meetings. Fascinated by the plasticity of voice, his approach to the instrument extends to several registers – spoken, sung, noisy – and includes some unique vocal techniques combining lyrical sophistication and brute animality.

Fr. 6. April: LIVE Trio noid/Nørstebø/filip (AT/NO)

6. April 2012
20:00bis22:00

Arnold “noid” Haberl – cello (http://noid.klingt.org/)
his musical approach can be described as fundamental research.
his works span a wide range of contradictory outcome, from solos to compositions for ensembles, from sound installations to videos.
using electronics as well as acoustical instruments.
consequently denying the borderline between music and sound-art.

Klaus Filip – laptop (http://losglissandinos.klingt.org/klaus2.html)
Klaus Filip is a performer/composer/programmer and is maybe the first viennese musician, who used the laptop on stage at around 1993.
The main focus of his current work is sinewaves, whose subtle and adducent sounds are used in a wide dynamic range depending on the project; that could be a noisy set with Chulki Hong or playing at the odor detection threshold with Radu Malfatti.

Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø – trombone (www.henriknorstebo.com)
is a Norwegian trombonist mainly involved with different types of improvised music,
both strictly organized and strictly un-organized. He currently plays with groups like
As deafness increases, Teknokrat and Raymond Strid/Nina de Heney/Henrik Nørstebø,
and in duos with a.o. Daniel Lercher, Rasmus Borg and Adrian Myhr.
Henrik also plays solo concerts. The cd “SOLO” was released on the portugese label “Creative Sources” summer 2011.

BRAVURA IN THE FACE OF GRIEF

Danielle DAHL (NO/DK) – saxophones
Anders VESTERGAARD (DK) – drums
Margaret UNKNOWN (AT) – guitar

BRAVURA IN THE FACE OF GRIEF performs in different formations with different instrumentation, but resolves around drummer ANDERS VESTERGAARD and saxophonist DANIELLE DAHL. They play improvised acoustic music, experimenting with timbres and playing with conventional instrumental roles. Sonically they move in a quiet, melancholy soundscape, but with room for melodic elements and loud bursts of energy.

ALPHA STRATEGYPoster illustration by Gary Francis

Utilizing primitive oscillating circuits, vintage synthesizers, shouted vocals, and loops lifted from 1960s schlager, Alpha Strategy delivers music which is volatile and convulsive, yet meticulously arranged. Through the use of elements of pop structure, Alpha Strategy’s music tips a hat to the frantic energy of Patrick Miller’s Minimal Man, the unusual compositional directions found on the early singles of SPK, and the dark humor conveyed in the recordings of The Birthday Party.

A musician, label operator, interviewer and deejay, Rory Hinchey of Alpha Strategy has been active in these and many other capacities for over a decade.

ZACK KOUNS

Zack Kouns describes his music as Modern Liturgical, and Apocalyptic/Hermetic in its aesthetic. Recent work, including his Concealed History of Coming Races takes on a form of dark Appalachian bluegrass. Content to blur the lines between conventional genres, especially through the use of saxophone, harmonium, electronics, violin, vocals and many other tools, the unifying principle of Kouns’ work is undoubtedly found in the soulful and passionate delivery of the songs themselves.

Undoubtedly one of the busiest and most insightful individuals in the realm of contemporary outsider art, Zack Kouns carries out activities as bandleader, performer, author, visual artist, researcher, prankster, and composer.
